The percent of visitors viewing just one page of your website and navigating off  is what constitutes your bounce rate number. You can check it via Google Analytics under the Audience > Overview tab.

You’ve probably heard that high bounce rate is often synonymous to boring content or inefficient blog design. Does your number look a bit too high? Should you get worried and plan a complete re-design? Not exactly!

There is a bit of a myth surrounding Bounce Rate – if you have a lifestyle blog, keep reading to find out what the actual deal is.

The Average Bounce Rate For a Fashion Blog

A high bounce rate at your fashion or lifestyle blog does not always mean you are doing something wrong or attracting the wrong kind of readers. Instead, it could just be a sign that:

  • You have a high amount of returning users hopping onto your blog to read a new post and bouncing off afterwards.
  • You are doing a great job with your CTAs and successfully encouraging your audience to click off to shop or visit a sponsor’s site.
  • Your readers found exactly what they wanted and then left 🙂

So what’s a good number? Considering you have a fairly established blog, with attractive design, no tech errors and quality content, a 70%-90% bounce rate is completely normal. If your number is closer to 70%-60% – congrats, you are doing a really amazing job!

Having an extremely low bounce rate (20%-40%) is okay for a new blog, yet may stand for a Google Analytics tracking error for a more established blog. Make sure everything is setup correctly, since a tracking error affecting the bounce rate could be distorting the rest of your metrics – eek! How To Reduce Your Fashion Blog Bounce Rate

We’ve already discussed how to lower your blog exit rate. Today, we’re going to take this further by diving into best practices aimed specifically to reduce your Bounce Rate. To make your readers more engaged and stick around your blog for a bit longer, consider doing the following:

Deep-link your content more efficiently. Link from your new posts to older ones using relevant keywords in your text. This way you not only encourage readers to check out your older content, but also improve your blog’s SEO and potential search rankings. Win-win!

Add a “Related Posts” widget. There are plentiful for WordPress and can be set up in a few clicks. Make sure you choose the right criteria for pulling “relevant” content in your homepage or at the bottom of each post! It could be specific blog categories, tags or keywords. Also, make sure the plugin displays featured images from your blog posts to encourage even more clicks.

Scan your site for “broken links”. Your readers might be landing at a non-existing page you’ve moved to another URL, and bouncing off for that matter. There’s a lot of free and paid checkers online you can use to find and fix broken blog links. Plus, consider creating an attractive custom 404 page that would guide a lost reader back to the best content.

Make sure your blog looks good in different browsers and on different devices.  Occasionally, we spot some blogs being oddly displayed in Chrome and looking perfectly well in Firefox, for instance. If you’ve made some design tweaks yourself recently, do check if your blog looks fine in different browsers and on different devices (tablet, mobile, desktop). Keep your readers on your site for longer when browsing through all screens!
