Mornings can be hard, especially when we are forced to get out of our beds in the early hours of the morning when it’s dull outside (hello autumn).
And yet all successful women unanimously claim that mornings are the most important parts of their day. They wake up early and are in their shining work armor by 9am, if not earlier.
Want to know their secret? It’s all about having the right morning rituals. If you want your mornings to be filled with the smell of endless possibilities as well, try following the next 9-step routine.
1. GET SOME MOVES
Anna Wintour starts her day with a 5.45 a.m. game of tennis at New York’s Midtown Tennis Club. You may not be Anna, but you should still get some exercise too. Crawling to your coffee machine does not count! ☺
Start your mornings with some quick yoga stretching or a 15-minute cardio workout to activate your body and your mind. Bonus point: morning yoga also tends to improve your mood and reduce stress levels as science has proved.
2. DON’T HIT SNOOZE
It may be oh-so-tempting to doze for just five more minutes, but don’t do that! Snoozing hampers your circadian rhythms (responsible for the wake/sleep cycle) and makes you feel groggy and disoriented for up to two hours.
3. DON’T GET ON YOUR PHONE IMMEDIATELY
Casual browsing in the mornings can be a mood-breaker – your brain gets exposed to so much information and becomes overwhelmed just too quickly. So instead of reaching for that gadget, follow Arianna Huffington’s example – take a minute to breathe deeply, be grateful, and set your intention for the day.
4. HAVE A PROPER BREAKFAST
Don’t skip the first meal of the day. It is the fuel your body needs to become active. Always take the time to grab a few delicious bites, and you’ll be surprised how less drowsy and more productive you’ll feel in the next couple of hours.
You can take some inspo from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Her morning treats are scrambled eggs on toast or yogurt with a handful of granola—preferably paleo—with some mixed berries, and maybe a breakfast muffin (also paleo) with a green juice.
5. GET HYDRATED
And hydration shouldn’t be limited to applying your favorite moisturizer. Or washing down your meal with an espresso shot. Your body needs plenty of water to function normally, and if you are dehydrated, expect some headaches and dizziness – not conducive to being a successful blog babe.
So make sure that a big glass of hot water (with mint and lemon if you like) is part of your morning ritual.
6. JOT DOWN YOUR TO-DO LIST FOR THE DAY
Your brain won’t be motivated to get to work mode unless presented with a clear list of chores. To-do lists reduce the clutter in your personal and work life and help you stay focused and achieve your goals faster. The key here is to fill your agenda with bite-sized manageable tasks that you can cross off one-by-one and round up your day with a great sense of accomplishment.
7. GIVE YOURSELF A PEP TALK
Reflect on the upcoming projects and tasks; compliment yourself on what you have already accomplished and hype yourself up for the day’s success. Your inner boss will always appreciate some encouragements in the mornings!
8. CHECK YOUR CALENDAR, EMAILS AND THE NEWS
Successful bloggers always stay informed on the latest industry updates and other important issues happening in the blogging universe. They are not afraid to respond to changes and are quick to adapt their game plans! So always take the time to browse your favorite publishers before diving into the real work.
Your email and calendar will often dictate how your next 10 hours of the day will look like. So make sure that these two are synced and you receive timely notifications about all your upcoming events.
9. DO SOMETHING DELIGHTFUL
Before you settle tight for your workday, add something quick and delightful to your morning routine – play with your cat, read a good book for 10 minutes, or just treat yourself to another “guilty pleasure” of yours. A quick morning delight can make your entire day much more joyful!
